Electroacoustic / Audience Participatory
Re/vision
Program Notes
I wanted to explore co-opting iconographies that are so emotionally charged—such as Pachelbel’s Canon in D in relation to weddings, or white hydrangeas in relation to bridal bouquets—and completely changing the emotional content through the tiniest manipulations. The visual material is manipulated only through lighting, while the musical material is transformed only by rearranging literal quotations from Pachelbel’s Canon. The end result is something uncanny: it sounds and feels almost revisionary, evoking the way hindsight can revise the emotional meaning of familiar objects, music, and memories.
